In Memory of John Mark Orpin - You'll Never Walk Alone YNWA
Story
Hi everyone,
I’m hoping to make a difference and walking for a cause that's close to my heart. As you all know I lost my wonderful husband John to this hideous disease last year. Motor Neurone Disease is a debilitating and fatal disease and I would like to do something to help people with the disease to hopefully live better for longer.
If you would like to support my efforts you can do so by making a secure online donation and by posting a message of support.
You can also support the event by Liking the event Facebook page here and inviting your friends to do the same. This will help gain more exposure for the event and the cause.
Any donation large or small will make a difference. If you're not in a position to donate why not join us on the walk, and if that's not an option either then please send us good vibes on the day while we walk in rememberence of the wonderful husband, dad/step-dad, pop, brother, father in law and friend we all miss every single day. The Motor Neurone Disease Association of Queensland (MNDAQ or simply MND Queensland) aims to provide and promote the best possible support for families living with motor neurone disease (MND) within Queensland, to support research and raise awareness in our community.
Since 1983, MND Queensland has been supporting people living with MND, their families and those who care for them, through the provision of information, education, support services and specialised equipment. Today, MNDAQ is committed to supporting Queenslanders who have been impacted by MND, including their families, friends, employers, and workmates.
MND Queensland receives no ongoing government funding and relies heavily on community support to help people with MND to live better for longer.
MND is a neurodegenerative disorder which can affect anyone at any time. The most common period is midlife, however it is increasingly affecting younger people, and can affect both men and women.
For a person being diagnosed with MND, it could mean the progressive loss of the use of their limbs, their ability to speak, to swallow and to breathe, whilst their mind and senses usually remain intact. The effects of the disease are rapid, debilitating and terminal. Currently there is no known cause or cure.
